Seattle, Washington

Seattle became one of my favorite cities over the weekend. Here is a snapshot:

Day 1:

We flew into Seattle from Orange County in the evening. Our Airbnb was located in the heart of downtown Seattle and was a great location to walk to nearby bars, restaurants, and Pike Place Market. We had dinner at Shiro's Sushi, a cozy omakase and sushi restaurant. It was perfect timing because we could not get a reservation but the restaurant luckily accommodated us. Since it was Seattle Restaurant Week, they offered $65 for a 19-piece omakase over 5 courses. The meal was exquisite and the omakase experience was the most fantastic start to our trip.

Day 2:

We walked to Macrina Bakery, where our favorites were the Morning Roll and CATE Sandwich. After breakfast, we packed some water and bars for our hike that day. We drove about an hour from downtown to Wallace Falls State Park to hike the Walls Falls via Woody Trail. It was an out-and-back trail that spanned about 3 hours and 5 miles. It was a beautiful and well-maintained trail. I would recommend hiking shoes and poles for anyone who ventures on it. The view from Middle Falls is the best view, however, Upper Falls is only a 30-minute hike from Middle Falls. We drove back to the city and had a post-hike meal at S/T Hooligans. It was a relaxing creole restaurant that served delicious gumbo and fried chicken. We rested at our Airbnb studio before heading out to a late dinner at Taylor's Shellfish. The oysters and geoduck were my favorite. However, the black cod, clams, and clam chowder were just ok :). We had dessert at Molly Moon's Homemade Ice Cream where we tried the coconut chunk and blackberry cedar tea latte. It was the perfect sweet treat to end the night.

Day 3:

We wanted to spend this day doing Seattlite tourist attractions. We toured the Chihuly Garden and Glass Museum, which was impeccable. The Space Needle is within walking distance from the art museum. Then we walked to Pike Place Market and tried the world-famous Pike Place Chowder. We tried the New England Chowder, Seafood Bisque, Crab and Oyster Chowder, and Manhattan Chowder, the latter two being my favorites. We went back to our Airbnb studio to rest before walking back to Pike Place. We stumbled upon Urara Japanese Restaurant for sushi and toured some local shops at the market. We tried some fresh scallops and bought some locally made jam. Our last dinner of the weekend was at Single Shot, where our host treated us so kindly. He even offered his parking spot to us when we were unable to find street parking. After dinner, we decided to go on the Great Wheel, as the last touristy thing we do before leaving :).

Day 4:

We checked out of our Airbnb in the morning. I think we would stay there again, but the parking spot in the garage was a little tight. We stopped by Biscuit Bitch for breakfast and Bakery Nouveau for their almond croissants and pastries to take on the plane. I thought the pastries were a little overpriced but the bakery is well-known and popular that we had to try for the first time. Nearby the bakery, we stumbled upon Seahurst Park, which had a saltwater beach tucked away in the quiet neighborhood of Burien. It was refreshing to see this side of Seattle compared to downtown.
